Bah! Hum Bug!

For the past two days I’ve been dealing with a nasty virus. Never fear; I’ll keep the details to myself. Today, I am still nauseated and unable to eat, but the 7-Up sure is going down good. But tomorrow is Christmas Eve. I had to send the family out to finish up the shopping, but there is still so much to do.

I’m reminded of a Christmas many years ago when I was in high school. I had strep throat, as did one of my best friends. We missed our family Christmases but we had a great day, tucked in our beds talking on the phone. We made the best of it.

Too bad we tend to put more upon ourselves as we get older. We worry about getting just the right gifts. We go overboard on food. We plan to make each Christmas better than the rest. Then, when something unexpected comes up – like illness – we feel guilty and worry we won’t  to pull off a miracle. Why? Today I’m going to settle in for some TV and forget about it. I’ll either recover in time to celebrate, or I won’t. There’s always next Christmas.
